Use the header menu (☰) for project management, take-off helpers, and exports. Items are grouped by job.
Project
Install app — Adds this take-off as a home-screen / installed app when your browser supports it (iOS: Share → Add to Home Screen).Projects — Open, switch, create, or delete saved takeoffs on this device. The current job auto-saves as you edit.Settings — Theme, placeholder text, and editable dropdown lists (sizes, hardware, window options, supplier packs).
Take-off
Take-off tools — Opens a tools drawer with the helpers below. Use these when building or revising a schedule, not for day-to-day single-door edits.Import shorthand — Paste one door per line (mark | size | core | jamb | hand | style…) to bulk-add interior doors.Templates — Load a starter schedule (e.g. typical 3-bed). Replaces the current door schedule after confirm.Supplier packs — Apply thickness / core / style / jamb / hardware defaults from a pack you configured in Settings.Floor plan markup — Upload a plan image and tap to place door marks that match the schedule.Quote comparer — Paste two supplier quotes and highlight line differences before you order.Export plan legend — Download a CSV of plan marks and locations after markup.
Output
Export — CSV, TSV, Excel, Print/PDF, Order/BOM, and Submittal packet (print dialog → Save as PDF).Share link — Copies a URL with a snapshot of the project (no photos). Recipients can open a read-only view.
Help & danger
Help — This guide: menu usage, handing, egress/tempered, and glazing packages.Clear All — Wipes the current project only (schedules and extras). Other saved projects are untouched. Cannot be undone.
Handing
Interior swing
Stand on the side the door swings toward you (push side). If the hinges are on your right, it is RH ; on your left, LH .
RHR / LHR are reverse-bevel / opposite-swing callouts when the bevel or swing direction differs from a standard interior approach.
Entry & exterior doors
Hand from the exterior (outside looking in). Hinges on the right = RH ; left = LH .
Windows (casement)
LH / RH is from the exterior (outside looking in). The hinge side is the hand: left hinge = LH , right hinge = RH .
Sliders & multi-slide (OX / XO)
Read left to right from the exterior . X = operable panel, O = fixed / stationary. Example: XO = operable on the left, fixed on the right when viewed from outside.
Non-swing types
Pocket, bypass, bi-swing, and barn/slider use fixed codes (PKT, BYP, BIH, BRN) instead of LH/RH.
Egress & Tempered
Guidance based on typical IRC R310 / R308. Always verify with the adopted local code and the manufacturer’s clear-opening chart.
Egress openings (IRC R310)
Sleeping rooms generally need an emergency escape and rescue opening. Typical clear-opening floors:
Clear opening area ≥ 5.7 sq ft ( ≥ 5.0 sq ft at grade)
Clear height ≥ 24"
Clear width ≥ 20"
Sill height ≤ 44" above the floor
Openable from inside without keys, tools, or special knowledge
Which window types can be egress?
Usually capable (if sized for clear opening): casement, single hung, double hung, slider.
Not egress : fixed, picture, typical awning/hopper, bay/bow as a unit. The app locks Egress to No for those types.
Hung windows only count the operable sash (about half the height). Sliders only count the operable panel (about half the width).
Tempered / safety glazing (IRC R308)
Safety glazing is commonly required in hazardous locations, including:
Doors and glazing within 24" of a door edge (when other R308 conditions apply)
Baths / showers / tubs — glazing with bottom edge < 60" above the standing surface
Stairs, landings, and ramps within the code’s distance / height rules
Large panels near walking surfaces (size and sill-height thresholds in R308)
The app sets Tempered = Yes (and often obscure glazing) when the location looks like a bath, stair, garage, foyer/entry, or near a door. Choosing Tempered IG / Obscure glazing also marks Tempered Yes.
What the schedule does
Bedroom locations prefer Egress = Yes when the window type can qualify. Change Type on each schedule line to set that opening’s operation options and egress rules. Size warnings estimate clear opening from nominal W×H — confirm the real clear opening before ordering.
Glazing
Common takeoff labels used by window and patio-door manufacturers. Confirm package codes, U-factor, and SHGC on the quote or NFRC label.
Glass packages
Single — one pane; rare on new residential; poor insulation.IG — insulating glass (dual pane, sealed air space), clear.IG Low-E — dual IG with a low-emissivity coating for better U-factor / solar control.IG Low-E Argon — Low-E IG with argon fill (common builder upgrade).LoE-366 — Cardinal-style high solar-control Low-E package (often specified by brand).Dual Low-E — Low-E on more than one surface for stronger performance.Triple / Triple Low-E — three panes (often with Low-E) for cold-climate performance.Obscure — privacy / patterned glass (baths); often tempered.Tempered IG — safety glass IG unit for hazardous locations (doors, baths, near doors, stairs).Laminated — interlayer for impact / security / sound; not the same as tempered.
How it ties to Tempered
Choosing Tempered IG or Obscure sets Tempered = Yes. Bath / stair / garage / foyer locations also push tempered. Use notes for U-factor, SHGC, or exact manufacturer glass codes.
Specialty exterior
Multi-slide and patio systems usually default to IG Low-E or LoE-366-style packages. Tempered IG is common on large operable panels and near grade.
